What awaits you at the World Nature Forum

The World Nature Forum has a very diverse range of themes. You will not only see glaciers and rocks, but also typical plants and animals, including insects and butterflies. Other topics include water and climate change in the Alps.
Several interactive exhibitions involve you directly in what is happening in the Alps and exciting films provide answers to many other questions. You also have the opportunity to discover the World Nature Forum on a private guided tour.

A ball track system adds an extra touch of fun to the exhibitions. Every young visitor receives a small ball at the entrance.

Interactive exhibitions at the World Nature Forum

The interactive components of the exhibitions involve you directly in what is happening. In this way, you can engage creatively and intensively with what is on display.

You will find these interactive stations:

  • virtual sandpit
  • Landscape game
  • legend grotto
  • dialect gondola

In the virtual sandbox, you can create mountains and rivers and shape your very own landscapes. Another station lets you recreate the landscapes of the Alps. The tectonic shifting of the continents is simulated on the screen, depending on how you turn the crank.

The legend grotto is specially designed for children and tells legendary stories about the forces of nature. In the dialect gondola, you can interactively learn about the dialects in the World Heritage Site. You sit in a gondola of the Grindelwald First cable car so that you can hear the dialects undisturbed.

Panorama Cinema at the World Nature Forum

The panorama cinema at the World Nature Forum presents exciting films about central questions regarding the UNESCO World Heritage Site on a stunning 100 m² area.

For example, the following topics are covered:

  • Experiencing World Heritage (about a careful and considerate use of World Heritage)
  • Humans in World Heritage (about people who live, work, or pursue a hobby in the World Heritage Site)
  • The Migration of the Thistle Butterfly (flight over the World Heritage Site across 4 seasons)

Jungfrau Railway Car at the World Nature Forum

The Ambassador Car of the Jungfrau Railways made its maiden journey to Jungfraujoch in 1912. It is a special highlight here in the museum. While seated in the car, you have the opportunity to visually experience a journey from the south to Jungfraujoch. Although this trip was planned, it was never realized.

Special exhibitions on changing themes relating to the Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch World Heritage Site show, for example, the use and way of life of insects or the completion of the "Eiger Ultra Trail", which is held every year at different distances.

An earlier special exhibition simulated the effects of global warming by an average of 2 degrees. Each adult was given VR goggles and traveled several centuries on the Aletsch Glacier.
