Interlaken is considered a Mecca in the paragliding scene for good reason. In terms of natural beauty, this area in the Jungfrau region is hard to beat. Turquoise blue lakes and snowy mountain peaks enchant here all year round and invite you to a paragliding flight. Five especially beautiful flights are presented in this guide.

Paragliding Niederhorn

Due to the special atmosphere in the morning sun, paragliding flights from the Niederhorn are especially suitable in the early morning hours.

The Niederhorn is the local mountain of Beatenberg on the northern shore of Lake Thun. You reach the mountain via a group circulating cableway at an altitude of about 2000 meters. Besides a wonderful view of the Bernese Alps, the Lake Brienz and the Lake Thun, the Niederhorn offers many hiking trails.

The starting point for the paragliding flight from the Niederhorn is at 1950 m.a.s.l. Over the forests the flight goes down to the center of Interlaken in twenty to thirty minutes. Thereby you will overcome about 1400 meters of altitude. For a tandem flight from the Niederhorn you need a total of about 2.5 hours including the journey.

Paragliding Beatenberg

Even before your paragliding flight from Beatenberg you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the mountains. Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau are just as wonderful to see from the launch site as Lake Thun and a little to the west Lake Brienz.

The launch site is located at 1350 m above sea level below the Niederhorn near Amisbühl. You walk a few steps on the slightly sloping terrain and you're already soaring. The pure flight time back to Interlaken varies between twelve and twenty minutes, depending on the thermals.

During your flight you will overcome an altitude difference of about 800 meters. For a tandem flight from Beatenberg you need a total of about 1.5 hours including the journey.

Paragliding Schynige Platte

For a paragliding flight from the Schynigen Platte the evening hours before sunset are especially suitable. Flights from Schynige Platte are not possible all year round and are carried out from May to October. The alpine panorama during this paragliding flight is uniquely beautiful. On one side your view sweeps to Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau and on the other side you can see the lake landscape with Interlaken.

From Wilderswil, a nostalgic train takes you more than seven kilometers up the Schynige Platte to Breitlauenen. It climbs 1420 meters in altitude and takes about 40 minutes.

The starting point is at about 1300 m.a.s.l. and is reached after a short hike from the mountain station. 750 meters of altitude are overcome in a flight towards the sunset, which takes about twenty minutes. The mountains shimmering orange in the evening light are a special experience. For a tandem flight from the Schynigen Platte you need a total of about 2.5 hours including the journey.

Paragliding Grindelwald-First

The Grindelwald-First is a flattened mountain ridge above Grindelwald. Here, on the sunny side, lies the launch site for paragliding at 2150 m.a.s.l. The panorama shows some imposing mountain peaks - among them the Grosse Scheidegg, the Wetterhorn, the Schreckhorn up to the Eiger north face and the Kleine Scheidegg.

The Firstbahn takes you from Grindelwald to the summit in about 25 minutes. On the First, in addition to the launch site, numerous other attractions await you, such as the First Cliff Walk or the First Flieger. The latter is an 800 m long zipline where adrenaline junkies fly through the air on a steel cable at more than 80 km/h.

During your paragliding flight from Grindelwald-First you can often observe golden eagles. The actual flight time to the landing site in Grindelwald is between twelve and twenty minutes, depending on the thermals. In total you should plan about 1.5 hours for the flight.

Paragliding Schiltgrat

Paragliding Schiltgrat is a tour with a magnificent winter experience. From Mürren you take a chair lift up to the Schiltgrat, where a flat sloping launch site awaits you. It is located directly next to the ski slope at 2150 m above sea level.

The paragliding flight from the Schiltgrat leads over the Lauterbrunnen valley to Stechelberg, where you will reach the landing site at the valley station of the Schilthorn cable car after 20 minutes. You will overcome about 1200 meters of altitude and pass an imposing rock face on the way.

In summer, this paragliding flight is also carried out. However, the takeoff is then from Mürren at 1630 meters above sea level.
