There are over 300 ski resorts in Switzerland. With more than 7000 kilometers of slopes, the country offers an incredible wealth of opportunities for winter sports enthusiasts. Whether you're skiing, snowboarding or cross-country skiing, you'll find your perfect area. Even if you want to ski on a glacier, in a snow park, off-piste as a freerider or at night, you will find it in Switzerland.

**Which ski resorts are suitable for families?

For families, ski resorts often offer specially designed infrastructure. Often these include the following offers:

  • children's lifts
  • ski schools
  • gently sloping pistes or specially signposted family pistes
  • Kidsparks and playgrounds
  • offers for child care
  • family friendly restaurants

Particularly family-friendly ski resorts include Savognin, Grindelwald, Hasliberg, Leukerbad, Andermatt and Les Diablerets.

When does the ski season start in Switzerland?

The start of the season for ski resorts in Switzerland depends on snow conditions and altitude. Therefore, there is not the start of the season and the end of the season. As a rule, ski resorts open their slopes in early December and maintain operations until the end of April.

Above about 2000 m.a.s.l., a ski area is considered to have guaranteed snow. Ski resorts in Switzerland with particularly reliable snow conditions include:

  • Saas-Fee
  • Zermatt
  • Laax
  • Engelberg - Titlis
  • St. Moritz - Corviglia
  • Samnaun
  • Grächen

Where can you ski in summer or in extended season?

At higher elevations, such as Saas Fee, it's quite possible that you can ski on the glacier as early as November and as late as Easter. The same goes for Zermatt, where you can even enjoy the slopes during summer skiing.

Swiss Activities tips for ski resorts in Switzerland

  • To save money on food on the ski slopes, we recommend packing your own picnic. Fill a hot soup in a thermos, a few snacks and your picnic in the snow is ready

  • Many areas offer night skiing on select evenings. This offers a perfect opportunity to experience a completely different atmosphere while skiing. In certain places, there is even full moon skiing. Here the slope is illuminated only by the full moon.

  • Have you ever visited an ice pavilion? In Saas-Fee there is the largest ice grotto in the world. Here you can explore the secrets of the glacier world.

  • It's rare that you have the slopes almost to yourself. With Early Bird Skiing in Savognin in Graubünden you can experience exactly that. Ski to the sunrise on the almost deserted piste and then enjoy a hearty breakfast in the mountain hut

  • Do you also feel like après-ski after skiing? In Zermatt you will find a particularly large selection for the party after an exciting day on the slopes. The Hennu Stall is particularly popular.

  • The Peak Walk in the Glacier 3000 ski area is the only suspension bridge in the world that connects two peaks. Adrenaline and a spectacular view are guaranteed when you interrupt your ski day here and head for this dizzying bridge

  • If you are a Raiffeisen member, you can get up to 40% discount on day tickets at selected ski resorts. To do so, you have to reserve your ticket online on the Raiffeisen portal. You can pay on site with your Raiffeisen EC card or Twint.
