What you can experience with the Jungfrau Travel Pass

The Jungfrau Region has many popular destinations to offer. We give you some examples of what you can enjoy with the Jungfrau Travel Pass.

Cogwheel railroads with the Jungfrau Travel Pass

Kleine Scheidegg is a pass at 2061 m above sea level between the Lauberhorn and the Eiger. Wonderful hikes start and end here. It has a very impressive panorama with Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. In between there are numerous glaciers. Mountaineers in the Eiger north face are gladly observed from here with binoculars.

Several cogwheel railroads meet at Kleine Scheidegg, with which you can travel:

  • The Jungfrau Railway takes you between Kleine Scheidegg and the Eiger Glacier

With the special price you get up to the Jungfraujoch

  • The Wengernalpbahn runs from Grindelwald or Wengen to Kleine Scheidegg.

The Eiger glacier is a glacier on the western slope of the Eiger at 3700 m above sea level, which extends to the station at 2300 m above sea level. In summer, people like to hike here along alpine and challenging hiking trails.

The Jungfraujoch with its viewing platform (3571 m above sea level) and the ice palace under the Aletsch glacier is an exceptional destination. Hikes across the Aletsch Glacier are popular from here

Hiking with the Jungfrau Travel Pass

The Jungfrau Region is a hiker's paradise. With mountain railroads you can reach such beautiful hiking and excursion areas as:

Harder Kulm

At Harder Kulm you can admire the panorama from Lake Brienz to the end of Lake Thun. Moreover, the southern mountain range of the four-thousanders can be seen excellently.

Schynige Platte

The Schynige Platte offers hiking trails and viewpoints as well as a large alpine garden. The panorama hiking trail is particularly popular here.

Männlichen

On Männlichen the view of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau is particularly impressive. The mountain is also very popular with mountain bikers. The Lieselotteweg and the Öpfelchüechliweg are two well-known theme trails between Männlichen, Holenstein and Brandegg.

Grindelwald First

Grindelwald First is also called "Top of Adventure". In addition to the Eiger and Jungfrau, the mountain giants Wetterhorn, Schreckhorn and Fiescherhorn rise from north to south. The Mönch is hidden by the Eiger. The famous Bachalpsee is a one-hour hike from the First. At the viewing platform you will find a popular selfie point.

Are the means of transport of the Jungfrau Travel Pass wheelchair accessible?

An increasingly large proportion of these means of transport are suitable for wheelchairs

Wheelchairs on BLS ships on Lake Thun and Lake Brienz

The majority of BLS ships are wheelchair-accessible and have a toilet that can be reached by wheelchair. The only exception is the MS Interlaken ship, which travels on Lake Brienz.

On all wheelchair-accessible ships, the 2nd class entrances to the outer decks are at ground level. This also applies to the restaurants. The 1st class of the motorboats Stadt Thun and Berner Oberland can be reached via a lift.

With a wheelchair on the mountain railways

Rack railroads and modern cable cars transport passengers in wheelchairs or with rollators. By the end of 2023 at the latest, all cable cars that offer nine or more seats in a gondola will be legally required to do so.

But also quite a few gondola lifts with 4-8 seats already offer this service. However, please inform yourself about the ways at your destinations. These are not always suitable for wheelchairs

Wheelchair accessibility of the rack railways

All trains of the Jungfrau Railways can be used with a manual wheelchair. Electric wheelchairs are sometimes carried in the baggage car (e.g. between Kleine Scheidegg and Jungfraujoch). For the transfer at Kleine Scheidegg, wheelchairs should be announced in advance if possible. This applies especially if several wheelchairs are traveling together.

  • The Jungfraujoch is suitable for wheelchairs. There is a wheelchair stair lift at the entrance to the Ice Palace.
  • The trains of the Wengernalpbahn have wheelchair ramps.
  • At Harder Kulm the path between the mountain station and the viewing platform is wheelchair accessible, but very steep.

Cable cars access with wheelchair

  • Grindelwald - Grindelwald First: Access to the gondola at ground level. The viewing platform is easily reached. For access to restaurants Bort, Schreckfeld and First, the staff will be happy to help
  • Grindelwald - Männlichen: The new 10-seater gondola has level access. The top station at Männlichen has a panoramic path suitable for wheelchairs and a restaurant at ground level. The Grindelwald Teminal is easily reached via lift and ramps.
  • Wengen - Männlichen: not wheelchair accessible, but staff will assist with both boarding and disembarking as well as negotiating the landings (advance booking recommended)
  • Wilderswil - Schynige Platte: not wheelchair accessible, but the staff will help you to get in and out of the chair as well as to climb the stairs (pre-booking is recommended)

The trail from Männlichen to Holenstein or even Grindelwald is manageable by wheelchair. However, it should be suitable for off-road use. The path to Kleine Scheidegg is also easily manageable with an all-terrain wheelchair. It leads along the foot of Tschuggen via Bustiglen.
